The Flax gang was made up of men, women and children, anyone who wished to earn an honest dollar. A "gang" was 50 - 100 people who reported for work at 7 am and finished at 6 pm. Wages ranged from 25 cents a day for children to $1 a day for the top pullers. Between 600 and 700 acres of flax were pulled each season.
